It is manufactured in the workshop of
Japanese firm’s TNGA-B and its spare parts are similar in size with Yaris
Supermini, it will be built at Toyota’s Factory in Onnaing, France. The firm
has planned to sell 150,000 units of Yaris Cross in next year, with a goal of
achieving 8% shares of the European B-SUV segment. It estimates Yaris fleet,
which consist of three units namely are supermini, SUV, and forthcoming GR
Yaris hot hatch, will be in third position in term of sales in European Region.
The rivals Nissan and Ford has plan to
unveil their vehicles Nissan Juke and Ford Puma in Geneva motor show in current
year which is cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic, but to be launched in UK and mainland Europe market for sale at
the beginning of coming year.
To tie up a strong link with
supermini, a famous model in European Market, Toyota is chose to use Yaris
Cross title for its new small SUV unit rather to go with the entirely new
title, Toyota quoted the reason. It shows the two vehicles shared same
foundation, but the firm’s claims that the two models aim separate customer
groups.
The new Yaris Cross is projected to
offer the “high-riding qualities of an SUV, but on a scale manufactured to suit
urban areas”. The design was refined by Toyota’s Design Studio in Japan and
Europe. Lance Scott, the boss of European Studio Design, said the style is
inspired by the phrase “robust and minimalistic”, as it reflects the both compactness
and agility along with the robustness and strength of an SUV”.
Scott added the exterior is unique in
style as it reflects the diamond shape when viewed from the top, including the
features of horizontal axis and enlarged squared wheel arches to show off its
SUV credentials. He further said: we wanted to be sticky with DNA of Toyota’s
SUV line up but there is no compromise on the separate identity of Yaris Cross.
Interior-Cabin with more spacious room and high ride-height

Yaris Cross follow the same wheelbase
length of 2560mm as of Yaris with an increment of 240mm in total length equal
to 4180mm that make interior cabin more spacious. Its ride-height is 30mm
higher, 1765mm is wider, and 1560mm tall. If comparing with supermini, it is
90mm higher and 20mm wider than it. The size of wheels use is 18in, and painted
with new color called Brass Gold.
Like Yaris, Toyota Yaris Cross will be
line up with the following features 114bhp (brake-horse-power) and 1.5-litere
petrol-electric hybrid Atiknson-Cycle powertrain. From the CO2 emissions point
of view, Toyota claims that its powertrain, fourth generation Hybrid
Technology, capacity of emissions CO2 is less than 120g/km when talk about
front wheel-drive models while in case of all-wheel-drive models its amount of
emission is 135g/Km.
European market still has opportunity
to sell Yaris Cross with conventional 1.5 liter engine capacity, although UK
market will be deprived of such offer.
Intelligent All-Wheels Drive
Yaris cross will enjoy the feature of
intelligent all-wheels drive as an option. It will be in the phase of electric
mode and mostly operates in front wheel in normal course of action rather
mechanical system, assisting with more torque to rear axle when required.
Offering intelligent all-wheel drive
features in compact cars was an unusual decision by the Toyota that turns a
b-segment car into SUV machine and increases versatility of Yaris Cross.
Further, this feature put drivers in comfort zone within urban area during the
weak and longer journey as well at the weekend. This new machine will play an
important role in attracting larger SUV buyers towards new powertrain without
losing performance standard, Toyota said in hope.
Driver Assistance Feature-Toyota Safety Sense
By embedding Toyota safety sense
technology, company provides a range of assistance to drivers such as automatic
braking and steering intervention.
The car cabin’s few features are
closely matched with Yaris Supermini, according to the some official images.
These features include centrally mounted touchscreen containing the latest
version of infotainment system. Beside this Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is
also installed to assist drivers to reach their destination.
Some other important credentials of
Yaris Cross include 40:20:40 folding rear seat that can be split, boot floor
having foldability feature with adjustable height, a flex belt system that
protects items movement in the boot when car is in drive mode.
Already Toyota has explained that the
Toyota Cross has specifically designed keeping in mind European Customers, but
it will also be landed on the road of Japan and Australia carrying with the
same branding image. First time, Yaris name-plate will be introduced in the
Japan, famous model supermini is branded as Vitz.
